Dumpling Xi Opens in the East Village

Dumpling Xi Opens in the East Village

On June 30, a day ahead of its official public debut, Dumpling Xi celebrated the grand opening of its new East Village location at 71 4th Avenue with a lively and flavor-packed evening that brought together press, food lovers, and friends of the brand.

The event marked a major milestone for the internationally celebrated dumpling brand, known across China for its commitment to freshly made, boldly seasoned Northern Chinese dishes. With over 800 locations throughout Asia, this new Manhattan opening is Dumpling Xi’s second U.S. location—and its first in the heart of New York City.

Guests at the grand opening were treated to a first taste of Dumpling Xi’s signature dishes, including crowd-pleasers like the Tossed Lotus Root Shaped Noodles and Beef Mixed with Wood Ear Mushrooms, alongside Red Chili Oil Dumplings and two standout hot pots: Fish Fillet & Vegetable and Beef & Vegetable, both served in a spicy and sour broth that quickly became the evening’s star. The dumplings, true to the brand’s name and legacy, were the main event—served hot and made to order. Notable highlights included Celery & Pork, Zucchini Egg & Shrimp, and Shrimp Chive & Egg Dumplings, all offered in both boiled and fried preparations.

Founded in Hegang, Heilongjiang in 2002, Dumpling Xi has built a cult following based on its philosophy of “freshly rolled, freshly stuffed, freshly made.” Its now-iconic long, straight-line dumplings—shaped like the Chinese character "—"—are a hallmark of the brand’s visual and culinary identity. With over 27 million loyal members in China and the support of 35 central kitchens and 11,000+ employees, Dumpling Xi's U.S. expansion aims to introduce its refined take on homestyle dumplings to a global audience.

The East Village location captures the spirit of the brand while offering a fast-casual experience tailored for New Yorkers. With 70 seats, an open and minimalist dining room, and no takeout or delivery options, the restaurant encourages diners to slow down, sit down, and enjoy dumplings at their freshest—right out of the kitchen. A DIY condiment bar lets each guest craft their perfect flavor profile using house-made chili oil, sesame oil, soy sauce, and fresh garlic.

Alongside the dumplings, the menu offers flavorful braised neck bone pots, spicy-sour broths, cold side dishes like Seaweed Salad and Red Bean Sweet Rice Soup, and desserts such as Black Sesame Soup with Sweet Rice Balls. Beverage offerings include Beibingyang Sparkling Orange Soda, Herbal Tea, Coconut Milk, and more.

This opening continues Dumpling Xi’s global mission: “Passing on for a Century, Spanning the Globe.” And judging by the excitement and full tables on opening night, it’s safe to say that the East Village is ready to embrace the dumpling.
